The Newsday Events Marketing Intern will be responsible for assisting the Events Project Manager and Community affairs team to successfully develop, plan, execute and re-cap all Newsday events throughout the Summer and Fall calendar months.
Working under the general supervision of the Events Project Manager, the Events Marketing Intern will assist with all aspects of sponsorship, promotions, advertising fulfillment, event logistics, set-up and execution, manage ticket pools/contests, client interaction and support re-capping efforts to evaluate future events. Provide administrative and operational support including research, processing direct mail/email blast communications, routing contracts for approval, telephone coverage, etc. Assist with the development and execution of marketing, promotions and event logistics efforts for all Newsday sponsored events. Maintain a detailed customer database of all running sponsors with contract specifications and organize lists for future sponsorship activation and solicitation. Handle direct mail, email correspondence and information requests by clients and sponsors (i.e. sales related collateral materials, organize contracts, mail event reminders/set up instructions, sponsorship activation instructions, etc.). Serve as a liaison for day to day communication and promotional activities with cross functional departments. Partner with Marketing Specialists to enhance communication, promotion and community outreach for various events using social networking sites (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, etc.), print/web materials in Newsday, Newsday.com, etc. Work with event vendors and sponsors to coordinate the planning, delivery, set-up, breakdown and removal of all staging and productions elements for various Newsday events. Assist with post-event recaps and provide feedback to improve future event planning and logistics. Responsible for audience engagement during events, will provide outstanding customer service and follow through to elevate brand visibility, awareness and enhance overall patron experience. Strengthen relationships between Newsday, Long Island community and local business partners during events. Assist in all event set-up and breakdown along with working each event. This may include lifting/moving heavy items, hanging banner, etc.
•Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree within the field of marketing, public relations, advertising, management or related field.
•A minimum of six months of previous work experience and/or internship experience in the areas of hospitality, event marketing, promotions, retail or guest services required.
•Strong interest in learning all aspects of sponsorship, event marketing and fulfillment.
•Microsoft Office Suite Intermediate level. (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
•Ability to plan and organize projects with multiple deliverable components while interacting with both internal team members and external vendors and partners.
•Ability to execute event products and fulfillment in accordance with specifications defined by sponsorship agreements.
•Must have strong teamwork etiquette, good organizational and attention to details.
•Strong interpersonal skills with a positive, energetic, “can-do” attitude.
•Must be able to lift 30 - 50 lbs. in a repetitive manner and stand for the majority of event shifts while constantly bending, stretching and reaching.
•Must be able to work ALL events which can include evenings and/or weekend hours along with some full day business hours during normal weeks.
