About This Startup Opportunity
Our client is a Series A-C startup in New York City transforming how users experience and control their personal data. They're seeking a Senior Backend Engineer with proven startup experience to join their West SoHo office.
Note: This role requires previous experience working in startup environments (Series A-C). Enterprise-only backgrounds will not be considered.
Core Technical Requirements
- 5+ years of backend engineering with data processing focus
- Expert knowledge of event-streaming systems (Kafka, Kinesis)
- Production experience with real-time analytics platforms
- Strong TypeScript & Node.js expertise
The Role
In this position, you'll architect and build the systems that power their flagship products, processing hundreds of millions of data points daily while transforming how users interact with their personal data.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement scalable event-streaming systems processing hundreds of millions of data points daily
- Develop and optimize real-time analytics platforms that turn complex data into actionable user insights
- Build high-performance APIs and microservices using Node.js and TypeScript
- Create and maintain PostgreSQL database schemas and data models
- Collaborate with product and design teams to deliver user-facing features
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code implementations
- Make key technical decisions balancing immediate product needs with long-term architecture
Required Qualifications
- Previous work experience at startups or high-growth companies (Series A-C)
- 5+ years of backend engineering experience with significant focus on data processing
- Expert knowledge of event-streaming systems (Kafka, Kinesis, etc.)
- Production experience with real-time analytics platforms (Druid, Clickhouse) and data warehousing
- Strong proficiency with PostgreSQL or equivalent relational databases
- Technical expertise with Node.js, TypeScript, and related backend technologies
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and modern CI/CD practices
- Experience in fintech, consumer technology, streaming media, data analytics, adtech, or social media preferred
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience

Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $150,000 - $225,000 based on experience
- Equity: 0.1-1% with significant upside potential
- Modern office in West SoHo with flexible schedule
- H1B transfer available for the right candidate
