About The Brotherhood Sister Sol (BroSis)
The Brotherhood Sister Sol (BroSis) is a Harlem-Based social justice youth development organization that since 1995 has been a place where Black and Latinx youth claim the power of their history, identity and community to build the future they want to see.
As part of our commitment to addressing food injustice, BroSis ensures that youth in our programs have access to nutritious, warm meals Monday through Friday. Our kitchen plays a vital role in providing these meals, creating a welcoming environment where young people can gather and be nourished during their time with us.
Position Summary
The Kitchen Porter is an essential part of the kitchen team, helping to maintain a clean, organized, and efficient environment to support meal preparation and service. This role involves cleaning and sanitizing kitchen equipment, assisting with food storage and deliveries, and ensuring food service areas remain stocked and tidy.
Key Responsibilities
- Clean, sanitize, and store all cooking equipment, dishes, and utensils.
- Maintain a sanitary and organized food prep area.
- Sweep and mop kitchen floors as needed.
- Keep food service tables clean and well-stocked.
- Refill eating utensils and plates throughout meal service.
Additional Duties
- Receive, unpack, and store food deliveries.
- Keep the delivery area free of clutter and properly organized.
- Organize refrigerators, freezers, and dry storage.
- Assist with packing to-go lunches.
- Support food service operations as needed.
- Help with basic vegetable prep, such as peeling, washing, and cutting.
Hours of Work
The BroSis kitchen operates Monday - Friday from 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM. The pay is $23hour. The Kitchen Porters schedule will vary based on need and will be shared one week in advance. While hours may fluctuate, all assigned shifts will fall within the kitchen's operating hours.
