Location: The Riverside Church in the City of New York (New York, NY)

Reports to: Technical Director

Department: Technical Services

Schedule: Per Diem, Called as Needed

Starting salary: $25-30 per hour depending on experience

Start Date: March 2025


Job Summary:

We are looking for Overhires to work as Stagehands, Lighting Designers, Light Board Operators, Programmers, Electricians, Carpenters, and Audio Engineers.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

Stagehands

  • Act as run crew for shows in the Theatre and events in the Church

Light Designers

  • Act as run crew for shows in the Theater and events in the Church.
  • Run ETC Ion or Element Lighting Console
  • Design Lighting for Events (Dance, Plays, Musicals, ect.)
  • Assist in Lighting Hangs and Focus Calls

Light Board Operators, Programmers and Electricians

  • Act as run crew for shows in the Theater and events in the Church
  • Run ETC Ion or Element Lighting Console
  • Assist in Lighting Hangs and Focus Calls

Carpenters

  • Act as run crew for shows in the Theatre and events in the Church.
  • Assist Master Carpenter in construction of sets and props

Audio Engineers

  • Act as run crew for shows in the Theatre and events in the Church.
  • Conduct Front of House Mixing for live musicals and concerts.

Experience and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required, emphasis in Theater or Design.
  • 1-3 years working in a professional theatrical setting
  • Professional demeanor is a must, as the candidate will be expected to be the representative of the Church to clients
  • Excellent interpersonal skills both in person and by phone, with high professionalism
  • Fantastic customer service ethic and high expectations for quality
  • Ability to behave within the Staff Vision of The Riverside Church - “Love is our Aim and Mutual Respect our Pathway”
  • Audio Engineers: Must have 2 years’ experience in FOH mixing. Qlab and LS9 proficiency essential, as are a basic understanding of signal flow, a/v troubleshooting, Clearcom Systems, and theatrical protocol. Experience with basic recording/ orchestral micing techniques preferred.
  • Lighting Designers: Must have 1 years’ professional experience or 4 years educational experience in Lighting Design. Must have experience with ETC ION and Intelligent Lighting. Must be able to design a one off show. Most rentals include Dance, Plays and Musicals. Problem-solving skills, sound judgment. Perfect for designers starting out in the business.
  • Lighting Board Programmers: Must have 1 years’ professional experience or 4 years educational experience in Programming. Must have experience with ETC ION and Element. Problem-solving skills, sound judgment.
  • Electricians: Must have 1 year Theatre experience or 4 years educational experience in Theatrical Lighting.
  • Stagehands and Carpenters: Must have 1 year Theatre experience or 4 years educational experience.
