Education:

Baccalaureate Degree:
A bachelor's degree in early childhood education or a related field is often a minimum requirement.

Early Childhood Credits:
Depending on the type of center, a certain number of college credits in early childhood education, child development, or a related field may be required.

Study Plan:
Some individuals may be able to meet the requirements through a study plan, where they demonstrate enrollment in a college program to complete the degree within a certain timeframe.
Experience:

Two Years of Experience:
Two years of experience as a group teacher for children under six years of age is often required.

Supervised Experience:
Supervised and documented relevant experience in a pre-school program may also be accepted.

Relevant Experience:
Experience should be verifiable and related to the specific role of the director.
Other Requirements:

Teacher Certification:
A valid teacher certification from the NYS Department of Education may be required.

Training Requirements:
Directors need to complete ongoing training in required topics, including at least 15 hours of training within the first six months of employment and then 30 hours every two years.
