The Marlene Meyerson Jewish Community Center in Manhattan is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Culinary Arts Instructor to lead engaging cooking classes for tweens (ages 9-12) once per week on Tuesdays from 5-6 pm (+ set up and clean-up) from September 9, 2025 through June 2, 2026. This role is ideal for a culinary professional with a passion for teaching and inspiring the next generation of young chefs. The instructor will create a hands-on, fun, and educational experience, incorporating essential cooking techniques, kitchen safety, and trending recipes.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement a 15-18 week culinary curriculum focusing on fundamental cooking skills and kitchen safety.
- Teach students to prepare nutritious, seasonal, and budget-friendly meals while fostering an appreciation for cooking.
- Incorporate viral recipe trends to keep classes engaging and relevant.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe cooking environment.
- Encourage creativity and confidence in the kitchen while fostering teamwork and collaboration.
- Plan menu and purchase all ingredients on a weekly basis
Qualifications
- Culinary arts degree or currently enrolled in culinary school (preferred).
- Must be 18 years or older.
- 2+ years experience working with children over age 8 in an educational or instructional setting.
- Strong knowledge of kitchen health and safety practices.
- Social media savvy, with an understanding of current food trends and viral recipes.
