Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly qualified Medical Director to provide comprehensive medical consultation and advice related to County health services in Broome County, NY. This role involves evaluating public health needs through data surveillance, recommending medical actions to government and healthcare entities, and supervising services provided by Health Department staff. The Medical Director plays a critical role in ensuring quality healthcare delivery and maintaining public health standards.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Medical Degree (MD or DO) from an accredited institution.
  • Certification: Board certification in Family Practice, Internal Medicine, or Infectious Disease.
  • Licensure: Active medical license in the state of New York.
  • Experience:Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience, with prior leadership or administrative roles in public health or healthcare administration. Experience presenting to the media on public health issues and managing infectious disease outbreaks is required.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in data analysis, public health surveillance, and quality assurance processes.
  • Soft Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills. Ability to collaborate with government entities, healthcare providers, and community stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide medical oversight of agency policies and procedures governing patient care.
  • Participate in strategic planning processes.
  • Aid Health Department staff regarding community needs.
  • Recommend remedial courses of medical action to the government and healthcare community.
  • Review and supervise services provided by Health Department staff.
  • Authorize medical interventions, including hospitalization, specialty consultations, and treatments.
  • Develop standards for medical staff appointment and credentialing.
  • Oversee quality assurance programs for the Department.
  • Provide direct patient care as needed.
  • Function as Laboratory Director for the Diagnostic and Treatment Center.
  • Establish goals, policies, and procedures with department personnel.
  • Direct the public health surveillance unit.
  • Coordinate epidemiological research and analysis of community health status.
  • Serve as a consultant regarding data collection and program statistics.
